Plato is turning 5

On Dec 7, 2016 we released the very first version of Plato. However, the actual history of Plato stretches all the way back to when our founders created Yahoo! Games — one of the original places on the web for people to hang out and connect with each other through games.

5 years and millions of players later, we believe that we’re still true to our mission: to create a product that we can all be proud of and to bring happiness to as many people as we can.

One of our biggest learnings over this past half decade is that you, our community, make Plato what it is. Our small team of less than 30 people from 5 different countries just builds the features.

Thanks to you, Plato has evolved from the early version of 1v1 turn-based games like Chess to more live social games such as Werewolf. We’re so happy to see people running extremely active groups, hosting their own private tournaments and making friends with people continents away.

We have lots planned for the future including a desktop version of Plato, more games with even more depth, and a slew of new features to empower you to build strong communities.

To celebrate our 5th birthday, we’ve prepared some cool stuff in-app this week:

  • Double Coins from Daily Quests
  • Tons of tournaments with 5th birthday rewards
  • Special contests for sharing your Plato stories with us

Whether you joined 5 years or just 5 minutes ago, thank you so much for taking part in this journey with us and we hope you enjoy the party.

Here’s to the next 5 years of Plato!

Plato is a new — and old — kind of games and chat app. We believe the best games are the ones that bring people together.
